Farsha Cafe Sharm also widely known as Farsha Mountain Lounge or Farsha Cafe, is one of the most iconic and visually captivating destinations in Sharm El Sheikh. Originally opened in 2010 as a small Bedouin-style tea house in the Hadaba district, it has grown into a world-famous, multi-level clifftop venue built directly into the natural rock face. Perched high above the Red Sea, it blends traditional Egyptian hospitality with an eclectic, fairytale-like bohemian design. The atmosphere completely transforms at sunset, when hundreds of hanging vintage lanterns, cozy floor cushions, and ambient lights turn the venue into a glowing, magical coastal lookout that feels like a scene straight out of Arabian Nights.
Breathtaking Panoramic Views: The multi-tiered layout offers sweeping, unobstructed views of the Red Sea and the coastline, making it arguably the premier spot in the city for sunset photography.
Eclectic Bohemian Aesthetics: The space is heavily decorated with colorful carpets, low-slung floor cushions, rustic wooden tables, and a vast collection of traditional Bedouin artifacts, vintage ornaments, and dangling fairy lights.
Relaxed Menu Options: While the dining choices are somewhat simple, visitors can enjoy freshly made pizzas, Egyptian mezze platters, mocktails, fresh fruit smoothies, traditional Egyptian mint tea, Bedouin coffee, and an extensive shisha service.
Vibrant Nightly Energy: After dark, the lounge shifts into a high-energy environment featuring traditional Arabian tracks, ambient beats, and an integrated light show that repeats multiple times throughout the evening.
Important Guest Policies: Due to its steep pathways and uneven stone steps, it is not recommended for individuals with mobility challenges. Additionally, the venue implements strict entry guidelines, generally permitting only couples, females, or mixed adult groups after 4:00 PM.
1. The Entrance Strategy & “The Ticket” System
Daytime vs. Nighttime: During the day (if you want to use their beach area), you pay an upfront entry/beach fee at the top gate. At night, there is no entry fee, but you must queue for a table.
The Numbered Ticket: In the evening, the venue uses a numbered queue system. When you arrive, a host will hand you a ticket. Instead of waiting in a tight line, you can wait in the upper lounge deck, order a drink, and hang out until your number is called.
The “Fake” Entrances: When walking down the main cliffside path, staff from neighboring, less-popular beach cafes might try to wave you into their seating areas, making it look like it’s part of Farsha. Keep walking all the way to the left and follow the main cluster of hanging lanterns to ensure you are actually in Farsha.
2. Strict Entry Rules (The “Couples & Families” Policy)
After 3:00 PM / 4:00 PM: Farsha strictly enforces a “couples, families, or mixed adult groups only” policy. Groups consisting entirely of men, or solo men, are routinely turned away at the gate in the evening to maintain a relaxed, secure lounge environment. Solo women or all-female groups are generally permitted without issue.
Children Policy: Due to the steep, uneven cliffside stairs and absence of safety railings, the venue limits access for very young children. It is generally recommended for children aged 6 and older.
3. Beating the Rush: Best “Sweet Spot” Times
The Sunset Trap: The peak rush is between 4:00 PM and 6:30 PM. If you arrive during this window, expect to wait up to an hour or more just to get a seat.
The 9:00 PM Sweet Spot: If you miss the afternoon, arrive around 9:00 PM. The sunset crowd will have cleared out to go back to their resorts for dinner, allowing you to walk right in without a queue and secure prime seating.
The Lighting Ceremony: People flock there for the exact moment the sun sets and the hundreds of red and amber lanterns flicker on simultaneously. However, the light show stays active all night and is often even more visually striking in pitch-black darkness around 10:00 PM.
4. Vibe, Etiquette, & Dress Code
Dress Code: There is no strict dress code, but it is highly recommended to wear modest casual layers. Even though it’s a beach resort town, Egypt is culturally conservative. Furthermore, because it is perched on a coastal cliff, it can get surprisingly windy and chilly after dark, so packing a light jacket or shawl is smart.
Footwear Alert: Leave the high heels at the hotel. You will be walking down a labyrinth of steep, uneven stone steps built directly into a mountain cliff.
Seating Etiquette: Seating is highly communal. Unless you have a massive group, you will likely be asked to share a massive low-table rug area with strangers. It’s part of the bohemian, social experience.
5. Getting There
Location: It is located in the Hadaba district (specifically El Hadaba / Ras Um Sid).
Taxi Warning: It is not in the Old Market/Old Sharm district, though many tourists mistake the two because they are only a 10-minute drive apart.
Transit Tip: Taxis from Naama Bay take about 15 minutes. Always negotiate and agree on a flat price with local taxi drivers before getting into the car, or ask your hotel concierge to arrange a round-trip driver.
