The Luxor Valley of the Queens is an ancient burial site on the west bank of the Nile near Luxor, Egypt, used during the New Kingdom (1550–1070 BCE) for the wives, princesses, and princes of pharaohs. It is known for its elaborate tombs, with the most famous being the tomb of Queen Nefertari (QV66), often called the “Sistine Chapel of Ancient Egypt”. Other notable tombs include those of Prince Amenherkhepshef, Prince Khaemwaset, and Queen Tyti.
- Ancient name: Ta-Set-Neferu, which translates to “The Place of Beauty”.
- Purpose: To serve as the final resting place for royal consorts and their children.
- Location: It is located on the west bank of the Nile River, south of the Valley of the Kings.
- Size: Over 90 tombs have been discovered there, though the most famous, Nefertari’s, is the most well-preserved.
